April 11, 2008 (UPDATED 4-14)–There are two official Las Vegas golfers in the field of the 2008 Masters, but several more players with ties to Las Vegas are in the mix. Adam Scott, the former UNLV player and student of Butch Harmon, finished in a tie for 25th, while Nick Watney (pictured), another Harmon protege and Henderson resident, was the highest Vegas finisher with a tie for 11th. With that finish he qualifies for the 2009 Masters. Scott felt better after withdrawing last week with an illness that hit him in Vegas. Harmon operates the Butch Harmon School of Golf at Las Vegas golf course Rio Secco Golf Club and has a long list of players he is working with at the Masters, including new pupil Ernie Els. Els missed the cut, but Phil Mickelson finished in a tie for 5th. Plus Tiger Woods, a former Harmon student, finished in a 2nd, three strokes behind champion Trevor Immelman, and will be in Las Vegas this weekend for his annual Tiger Jam, featuring Van Halen.
