August 12, 2008–Las Vegas golf course Painted Desert Golf Club is the host site for the 2008 Silver Cup, an annual, Solheim Cup-style team golf tournament that features the team from the Northern Nevada Women's Golf Association competing against a team from the Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association. Painted Desert Golf Club is a fun, challenging, player-friendly desert golf course designed by Jay Morrish. Competing this year for the Southern team, announced by team captains Kay Medrano and Laura Smith, are: Sarah Bowman, Masako Brown, Larren Buckley, Rita Byorick, Ruth Carroll, Doe Emes, Eve Farr, Tammy Gephardt, Kari Higa, Sherry Jackson, Laurie Johnson, Karen Killpack, Brenda Knott, Jessica Kwon, Kay Medrano, Christina Monteiro, Robbin Sanchez, Penny Schilling, Karen Tieken, and Janet Weber, The event will be played October 19-22. The team includes 14 Silver Cup veterans, led by Emes, who has played in every competion since 1993.
The team from Northern Nevada won the 2007 event, played at Hidden Valley Golf Club in Northern Nevada, 21-19. Pat Rhoads was one of the Northern Nevada leaders, collecting 2.5 points during the compeition. Sherry Jackson was a bright spot for the Southern team as she collected 2.5 points in the losing effort. The Southern team won the 2006 event 20.5-19.5.
