February 22, 2009–TPC Las Vegas is owned and operated by the PGA Tour, and is a past host to Las Vegas golf events on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. And once again this Las Vegas golf course will be the host course for the Academy of Country Music Celebrity Golf Classic on April 4. For the 2nd consecutive year, the event is hosted by Rascal Flatts. The golf tournament is the day before the ACM awards at the MGM Grand Arena, hosted for the 11th time by Reba McEntire. Thus far, other country music stars participating in the golf tournament haven't been announced, but last year joining the members of Rascal Flatts at TPC Las Vegas were fellow country artists Kix Brooks, Blake Shelton, Chuck Wicks and Bryan White, among others. This Las Vegas golf event benefits the Diane Holcomb Emergency Fund, which offers immediate financial aid and support to members of the country music community who find themselves in need. The 44th Academy of Country Music Awards is dedicated to honoring and showcasing the biggest names and emerging talent in the country music industry. The show is produced for television by dick clark productions and will be broadcast LIVE from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Orly Adelson and R.A. Clark are executive producers, Barry Adelman is producer and Bob Bardo is executive in charge of production.
The other events surrounding the tournament and awards include ACM Artist of the Decade Special Honoring George Strait – This Academy honor is bestowed on an artist only once every decade, and this year the brightest stars in the industry will pay tribute to the "King of Country" George Strait. Only four other acts have received this accolade, including Marty Robbins in 1969, Loretta Lynn in 1979, Alabama in 1988 and Garth Brooks in 1998.
