May 15, 2009–This year, Tiger Jam XII, presented by AT&T, is being billed as the 'Ultimate Las Vegas Party', and both public and private parties and appearances by Tiger Woods are part of the fun. Private golf-related events are taking place at Las Vegas golf courses Rio Secco Golf Club and Cascata, while a public concert takes place on May 16 at Mandalay Bay, headlined by No Doubt. Former Las Vegas Invitational (PGA Tour) Champion John Cook helped his friend Tiger perform a golf clinic at Cascata. Some of the celebrities watching and learning were Dwyane Wade, Marcus Allen, Willie Gault, and Roy Green.
A special live and silent auction takes place prior to the concert where a lucky bidder will earn a private putting lesson with Tiger. The lesson will happen during the week of the 2009 Chevron World Challenge in Thousand Oaks, Calif., an event hosted by Woods. Tiger Jam has been in Las Vegas for several years, and annually raises funds and awareness for the millions of young people served by the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Other interesting live auction items include a one-of-a-kind, all inclusive trip to Australia featuring fine dining, five-star accommodations, and the company of some of Australia’s finest athletes including cricket legend Steve Waugh. Additionally, AT&T is offering batting practice at The AT&T Park in San Francisco – home of the San Francisco Giants – and 35 Blackberry Bold devices, preloaded with the YELLOWPAGES.COM application. Auction items were donated by many generous companies including AT&T, American Airlines and Upper Deck.
The silent auction will feature exclusive items including Fred Leighton pearl and diamond cluster earrings, an EA SPORTS video game package with a Sony PlayStation 3, a Bruce Springsteen Autographed Guitar and autographed memorabilia. The auctions are a part of a dinner reception at Mandalay Bay, prior to Tiger Woods and Ben Roethlisberger hitting the stage to welcome No Doubt along with Paramore and the Sounds.
Both Cascata and Rio Secco Golf Club are Las Vegas resort golf courses designed by Rees Jones, and have been a part of Tiger Jam for several years. Cascata has been called "Golf's hidden treasure" bu Sports Illustrated, while Rio Secco Golf Club is the current host of the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge, a Las Vegas golf event that pits three player teams from the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and Champions Tour against each other.
No Doubt Formed in Anaheim, Calif., and reached international success with their 1995 release, Tragic Kingdom. That album, including the mega hit "Don't Speak" among many others, has sold over 15 million copies worldwide. Their follow up, Return of Saturn, was nominated for the Best Rock Album at the 2001 Grammy Awards and granted a four-star review by Rolling Stone Magazine. The band went on to win two Grammy Awards for 2001's multi-platinum Rock Steady and performed at the Superbowl XXXVII Halftime Show in 2003 alongside Sting. After the double platinum success of No Doubt's Singles Collection, featuring the hit "It's My Life," and a subsequent tour with Blink-182, lead singer Gwen Stefani released two successful solo albums in 2004 and 2006 respectively. In November of 2008, after a nearly 5 year hiatus, No Doubt announced plans to reform for a 2009 summer tour with special guests Paramore.
Since its creation in 1998, Tiger Jam has raised more than $11 million for the Tiger Woods Foundation and select Las Vegas based charities through its sold-out performances and one-of-a-kind auction items. Tiger Jam was created by the Tiger Woods Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering young people to reach their maximum potential. Since its inception in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father Earl, the Tiger Woods Foundation has reached an estimated 10 million young people through character development, career exploration, scholarships and grant making programs. Programs developed and supported by the Tiger Woods Foundation all share a similar mission of empowering young people to dream big and to set specific goals to achieve their dreams.
Specific programs of the Foundation include the Tiger Woods Learning Center, a youth-education facility and curriculum based in Anaheim, Calif., and Tiger’s Action Plan, a nationwide character development program based on Earl D. Woods’ book entitled Start Something. Tiger’s Action Plan is a free program for youth 8-17 that addresses three priorities: character education, volunteer service and career exploration.
