Las Vegas, Nevada (September 9, 2010)–We classify the Las Vegas Golf Region as including those surrounding areas within about a 90-minute drive of Las Vegas, and the city of Mesquite qualifies. Mesquite, Nevada, is located, appropriately 77 miles north of Las Vegas and is a gaming and golf destination which features seven Las Vegas Golf Region golf courses. One of those, Wolf Creek Golf Club, is annually included on the "Best of" lists by major publications. And the management of Wolf Creek Golf Club has created Wolf Creek Vacations where Las Vegas golfers can go to reserve tee times in the Mesquite area or Mesquite golf packages.–By Bill Bowman.
Wolf Creek Vacations not only offers tee times and golf packages for Wolf Creek Golf Club, but several other Las Vegas Golf Region golf courses including Sand Hollow. Other Mesquite and Las Vegas Golf Region courses included in potential vacation packages are the two golf courses at Oasis Golf Club, and Falcon Ridge Golf Club. We’ve all had that feeling. It happens when you step on the first tee of a new golf course. Your palms get just a little more sweaty as you take in amazing views. Your breathing gets a little more labored as you realize you’re about to tackle a golf course of epic proportions. Welcome to Sand Hollow Resort. Sand Hollow Resort, one of the layouts included by Wolf Creek Vacations, is actually located in Hurricane, Utah, about 35 minutes up the road from Mesquite. It’s a John Fought design that stretches out to more than 7,300 yards. And there’s more. There’s also a nine-hole links-style course that adds to the enjoyment. Players can take on the championship course, mix nine holes of the championship course with the nine holes of the links course, or play all 27 holes.
The par-72 championship course features picturesque golf holes from start to finish. But it’s a four-hole stretch on the back nine that will leave players breathless. The 12th through 15th holes provide a solid challenge of golf that ranks right up there among the toughest. "For spectacular views and challenging holes, these are very impressive," says Colby Cowan, head golf professional. In that stretch, the three par 4s and a par 3 will test players as sheer cliffs to the left and rock outcroppings to the right necessitate finding the fairways off the tee. Nestled between those danger spots are brilliant green strips of fairway with natural red-sand bunkers that are as beautiful as they are treacherous, and offer a stunning contrast to the fairways. But it’s the par-4, 12th that will have players reaching for their camera before they reach for that driver. This beautiful golf hole has it all: A forced carry (from the back set of tees) with the drive, sheer terror with the cliff on the left, the ragged rock outcroppings to the right and perfectly placed bunkers. It’s one brilliant golf hole that players won’t soon forget.
"It’s challenging golf course for the good player but for the beginner, it’s also a course that won’t beat them up," says Cowan. "Players just need to choose the right set of tees and they will have a great time." Sand Hollow Resort, was voted as one of GOLF Magazine’s best new courses in 2008, and is a nice addition to a Las Vegas Golf Region vacation, and Wolf Creek Vacations is happy to set the whole trip up.
