Shared Re-Post–3/21–Las Vegas, Nevada (January 22, 2011)-The secrecy is about to be lifted off one of the world's most talked about golf secrets. For the first time, the general public will be allowed behind the gates of Tom Fazio's Shadow Creek, one of the most exclusive golf courses in the world. Ever since it was created by Fazio–and casino legend Steve Wynn–most have only been able to speculate about what happens there. But with the playing of the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational March 31-April 3, fans will be allowed to watch the tournament and check out the course. –-By Brian Hurlburt
Founded in 2001, the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational I is one of celebrity golf’s most popular events and has raised more than $5 million for charity. But there could be as many fans purchasing tickets to view Shadow Creek as there are to view the major celebrities and athletes who will be playing. The four-day tournament and celebration, which boasts incredible parties, A-list entertainment and competitive golf, and has attracted sports legends including Wayne Gretzky, Charles Barkley, Mario Lemieux and Julius “Dr. J” Erving, and entertainment personalities such as Mark Wahlberg, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Don Cheadle in years past. This year’s event beneficiaries include the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the James R. Jordan Foundation, Cats Care, Nevada Cancer Institute, and the participating celebrities’ charities of choice.
"I’m truly excited about bringing my tournament to Las Vegas," said Jordan in a statement. "Shadow Creek is one of my favorite courses and ARIA is a spectacular resort. I love seeing old friends, playing golf and having fun, but the most gratifying aspect of hosting the event is what we’ve been able to give back.” The event is being hosted by the new Aria Resort and Casino in CityCenter Las Vegas. In addition to spectator tickets, there are sponsorships and playing spots available.
Fans who wish to experience this exclusive event can purchase daily or weekly general admission tickets, as well as daily or weekly VIP passes. VIP spectators will enjoy an unparalleled view of the course from an open-air hospitality complex featuring a “VIP Party Deck” overlooking the par-5, 18th hole.
“ARIA Resort & Casino and Shadow Creek are incredibly proud to bring the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational to Las Vegas for the first time,” said Bill McBeath, ARIA’s president and chief operating officer, in a statement. "It's only fitting that we open Shadow Creek to the public for the first time to welcome fans of Michael Jordan and his celebrity guests for such a spectacular tournament. More importantly, we are honored to be a part of an event that will help raise money for a variety of important charitable organizations."
