Las Vegas, Nevada (August 3, 2011)–The management of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is looking for golf fans ready to volunteer. This opportunity allows fans to get up close and personal with the PGA Tour players, sometimes going inside the ropes and stadning right in the middle of the action. The event is to be played the last weekend in September.. –By Brian Hurlburt and official press release.
Who knows, if you volunteer you might be right in the middle of the action for some of the most exciting shots in Las Vegas golf history. In 2010, there were volunteers inside the ropes when Jonathan Byrd knocked his tee shot in the hole on the par 3, 17th hole, thus becoming the first golfer in the history of the PGA Tour to win with a 'walk off' hole in one. Join the Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open team and register to be a volunteer, Sept. 25—Oct. 2, 2011 at TPC Summerlin. By assisting with the tournament, volunteers are supporting the life-changing work of Shriners Hospitals for Children and its mission to provide specialty pediatric care for children, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Volunteers can donate their time to a variety of committees including player/volunteer services, admissions, operations, event services and more.

Whether you’re a golf fan or looking to give back to the Las Vegas community, the opportunities are endless to support and volunteer for a cause that impacts the lives of children every day. Some of these volunteer opportunitiesinclude: As a Standard Bearer, volunteers are responsible for accompanying a group of professionals during play and displaying their scores in relation to par. Volunteers in this committee must be able to walk all 18 holes and carry a standard weighing up to seven pounds. Young adults, ages 13—18, may volunteer for this committee on approval of the committee chairman.
Managing security and safety of the PGA Tour professionals, Marshals act as ambassadors for the security team for the tournament. Stationed at each tee, landing areas, putting greens and crossovers, volunteers will have the opportunity to come up close and personal with the PGA Tour professionals throughout play. In order to maintain safety, marshals are responsible for enforcing golf etiquette and ensuring pros are not disturbed during play.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to assist in recording distances using laser equipment. The Laser Reporters will be stationed during professional play on Thursday through Sunday behind the greens and fairways to report distances to the Scoring Trailer using a hand held computer. Training is provided for volunteers.
In addition to working alongside some of the biggest names in golf, volunteers receive a week-long tournament admission badge and a ticket to the volunteer party. A $50 uniform fee includes an official volunteer tournament jacket, golf shirt and hat, and all meals during their shift.
