Mesquite golf Art SellingerLas Vegas, Nevada (October 30, 2011)–Mesquite, Nevada, is a golf course destination located 77 miles north of the Las Vegas Strip. But it only seems like some of the biggest hitters of the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship can hit the Strip from Mesquite in one drive. So far, five divisions ranging from Super Senior to Women's have been determined. —By Brian Hurlburt, with press release.

Four world champions, a group consisting of two first-timers and two former winners, one of them double-dipper Pat Dempsey, have been crowned at the 2011 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship Powered By Dick's Sporting Goods. The parade of 2011 champions includes Sweden's Sandra Carlborg (Ladies Division), and Americans Rick Scott (Masters Division), Michael Hooper (Legends Division), and Dempsey, who snared both the Grand Champions Division and Super Seniors Division crowns.

"It's been an incredible first few days in Mesquite, especially with Pat's remarkable performance in pulling off a double dip," said Art Sellinger, chief executive officer of Long Drivers of America, which annually stages the premier event in power golf. Sellinger will be inducted into the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fam on November 5. "We expect even more fireworks in the week ahead, as the world's longest hitters take to the tee and bring the heat."

Carlborg and Scott claimed their first RE/MAX world titles. Hooper previously captured three consecutive RE/MAX Senior Division titles in 1996-98. Dempsey previously bagged the RE/MAX Senior Division in 2002.

Dempsey becomes just the second long driver to win two separate RE/MAX WLDC titles in the same year, matching the feat first accomplished by Bobby Wilson, who won the Senior Division and Super Seniors Division in 2009.

Ironically, Dempsey twice defeated Wilson in head-to-head matches to claim a double of his own. He beat Wilson 381-369 in the Grand Champions Division final on Friday (Oct. 28), then backed it up with a 367-354 win in the Super Seniors Division on Saturday (Oct. 29).

The RE/MAX Open Division and Senior Division titles will be decided on Friday, November 4 during a live three-hour ESPN3.com broadcast from Mesquite Sports and Event Complex. The broadcast will begin at 4pm Eastern time (3pm Central, 1pm Pacific).

England's Joe Miller is the defending Open Division champion while American George Slupski is defending Senior Division titleholder. Among the top challengers for Miller's title are two-time RE/MAX champion Jamie Sadlowski, five-time RE/MAX winner Jason Zuback, and Landon Gentry, leading money winner on the 2011 LDA Tour.
