Las Vegas, Nevada (July 17, 2012)–The Las Vegas Golf Region is the site for many of the biggest and best golf tournaments including the Masters of college golf, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open, Tiger Jam, and the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge, among others. And this week brings the World Masters of Junior Golf to TPC Las Vegas, a PGA Tour-owned course. –By Brian Hurlburt
"We are bringing the world together in a junior golf way," says Tournament Director Marty LaRoche, a PGA of America professional. "We have the best kids from 30 countries here, and what makes it neat is that they are all ages, not just the older players, and both boys and girls are playing. It's amazing to watch some of the younger players shoot under par and play so well."
The event is also being played at Angel Park Golf Club due the size of the overall field. Backing up the boast that this is one of the top junior tournaments in the world is the fact that there are players who have come as far as Indonesia, Australia, Columbia, and many other countries to lay claim to the top prize.
TPC Las Vegas is a former host course for events on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour, and is operated by the PGA Tour. It is known as the home of pro golf in Las Vegas, but this week it is the home of the world of junior golf. On a daily basis, the likes of Tour players Kevin Na, Charley Hoffman, Bill Lunde, and others play and practice at the same venue that the junior golfers are playing this week. TPC Las Vegas is a resort course and open for all to play as is Angel Park, home to 36 holes of Arnold Palmer golf. Visit the official website for Las Vegas tee times and golf packages info and reservations.
Nevada is represented with top golfers such as Veronica Joels, Colton Cherry, Brandon Motherway, Andrew Boka, and Ryan Rasmussen in the field. The following is the official description of the tournament:
From the official website: "The World Masters of Junior Golf is the premier golf tournament in the world. Our mission is to provide junior boys and girls of all ages with the most competitive field and the ultimate tournament experience. This unique Televised event creates a PGA Tour atmosphere. Our professionally operated event by PGA golf professionals and PGA apprentices and volunteers makes this a must play for all juniors. This is a Nationally ranked event."
