"Nothing connotes world championship status more than a championship belt or a championship ring," said LDA owner Art Sellinger. "In boxing, MMA and other contact sports it's all about the belt; in the NFL, NBA, or MLB, the ring's the thing. We're pleased that the longest hitter in golf will receive both prizes as part of his unprecedented payday."

The World Championship belt was hand-crafted by Masis Boxing Belts of North Bergen, N.J. And the customized championship ring was designed by Dallas Prince Jewelers of Los Angeles, Calif. The 2013 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship finals run September 18-27 at the Mesquite Sports and Event Complex in Mesquite, NV. Champions will be crowned in six divisions, while the top eight hitters in the Open Division advance to the Oct. 30 showdown in Las Vegas.

Golf Channel's extensive "Long Drive Month" coverage of the 2013 RE/MAX WLDC begins Oct. 9 and culminates with Oct. 30's live broadcast of the Open Division finals from Las Vegas Motor Speedway at 9PM Eastern Standard Time. Tune in to see the longest hitters on the planet unleash massive drives with swing speeds topping 140mph.

Ryan Winther is the defending champion and was hitting shots more than 430 yards during a media event earlier this year at the Speedway. He hopes to survive the Mesquite qualifying and return to Las Vegas. “We are going to a whole new level of excitement and competition, and a whole new level of just pure awesomeness,” said Winther after hitting from tee down to the speedway infield. “I am really excited to see this in October because it’s going to be perfect for the hitters and perfect for the fans. I am happy to be here and to see the growth of the sport, and it is going to be really fun at the Finals. The way I like to sum it up is that this is going to be awesome.”
