Las Vegas, Nevada (April 6, 2014)–Country Music Superstar Scotty McCreery may never figure out the game of golf, but he definitely knows why he annually returns to TPC Las Vegas for the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Lifting Lives Celebrity Golf classic. "This is such a great cause," McCreery told Billboard Magazine. "When you have a ton of folks that want to support a cause like this, and are so passionate about, that's how you know it's really making a difference in people's lives. I'm glad we can do whatever we can to help raise awareness and help out." Other country stars out hitting the links to support the cause were tournament host Darius Rucker, David Nail, Jake Owen, and Frankie Ballard. McCreery is a true golfer but also revealed that he may never master the sport. He even put in a lot of practice leading up to the tournament. I've tried to play every day this week," he said. "Monday I was really focused on my backswing. I was hitting the ball about as well as I have in quite some time. Then, Wednesday, I go back out and try to focus on the same thing. I shot about as bad as I ever have shot in my life. Golf is a sport I will never figure out, but it's fun. It keeps me coming back."
The resort TPC Las Vegas is one of two PGA TOUR-owned golf courses in Las Vegas and is the site of major celebrity events and once hosted events on both the PGA TOUR and Champions PGA TOUR. The ACM Lifting Lives Celebrity Golf Classic raised funds and awareness for the Diane Holcomb Emergency Relief Fund, which enables ACM Lifting Lives to respond quickly to unforeseen, immediate financial needs of music related organizations and individuals.
The country stars are in town for the Academy of Country Music awards which are televised live from the MGM Grand Arena. Rucker's tweet about the tournament summed up the feeling of all involved: "Had fun hitting the links for a good cause today! @ACMawards Lifting Lives Celebrity Golf Classic is always a good time. #ACMs"
