Las Vegas, Nevada (Sept. 24, 2015)–Rickie Fowler has an affinity for Las Vegas, and that’s probably one of the reasons that it appears as if he will be playing in the PGA TOUR’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open here in October. Fowler once lived in the city, has played the tournament in the past, and a couple years ago started working with Butch Harmon. Harmon operates the Butch Harmon School of Golf at Las Vegas’ Rio Secco Golf Club. Fowler was quoted in Golfweek as saying the Shriners PGA TOUR Vegas event was in his plans. –By Brian Hurlburt
“I’ve enjoyed playing (Las Vegas) when I have,” Fowler told Golfweek writer Jim McCabe recently. “(Also I don’t) want to be way back on (FedEx Cup) points; it’s one of the reasons why I thought about getting to Vegas … “I enjoy spending time there, Butch is there, and it can be a very productive week for me.”
The Vegas event, in fact, was Fowler’s first as a professional on the PGA TOUR. In 2009 he finished tied for 7th and then came back in 2010 and finished T22. During that time frame he shared a condo in Las Vegas with fellow PGA TOUR pro Cameron Tringale.
Fowler has won twice in 2015 and is now regarded as one of the best golfers in the world. He won THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP earlier this year and most recently won the Deutsche Bank Championship. He currently ranks third in the FedEx Cup standings.
Harmon has been ranked as the top teacher in the world for more than a decade in a poll of his peers conducted and published by Golf Digest. Harmon works with Fowler as well as Phil Mickelson, Duston Johnson, and several other top Tour players. The cool thing about the Harmon School is that Harmon and his talented staff also work with everyday players. You can visit ButchHarmon.com for all details about how to attend a School in Las Vegas.
The Shriners event is October 22-25 at TPC Summerlin. All fans are urged to attend and support a wonderful community event and also to watch some of the best players in the world. Several Tour pros who live in Las Vegas and/or played at UNLV will be playing as well.
