Las Vegas, Nev. (Sept. 2, 2016)–Each year, some of the top young golf professionals in the United States trek to the golf destination of Mesquite, Nev. to challenge for the prestigious Nevada Open title. Plus go after their share of a purse of $125,000. Registration is now open for professionals and high-level amateurs for this year’s tournament that will be played Nov. 8-10 at CasaBlanca and Palms Mesquite golf courses. “We are thrilled that the players will again be playing for $125,000 and the lucrative purse paired with the quality of courses and Mesquite hospitality continually attracts some of the top aspiring golfers,” said Christian Adderson, corporate sales manager for Mesquite Gaming. “Several who have played here are now on the PGA Tour, including Graham Delaet and Tony Finau. Last year’s champion, Air Force veteran Tom Whitney, is now playing on the PGA Tour LatinoAmerica. The pro-am has also become an annual tradition and offers a chance for everyday golfers to play with the future stars.”
The entry fee for non-affiliated professionals is $725. The fee for PGA of America golf professionals is $500, while Southern Nevada PGA of America professionals are offered a rate of $450. Amateurs are welcome to compete and the entry fee is $350. Amateur entrants will be screened by the tournament committee and those selected will be contacted personally. All entry fees include accommodations for three nights at CasaBlanca Resort. The event is free to all spectators.
Among the champions of the Nevada Open throughout its history are Robert Gamez, Vic Wilk, Kevin Penner and Tom Lehman. Other notables who have played in the tournament include PGA TOUR players Craig Barlow, Boyd Summerhayes, Kevin Stadler and Champions PGA TOUR player Jay Don Blake.
Back for the second year is a special Nevada Open Pro-Am scheduled for Monday, Nov. 7 at The Palms while the professional competition is scheduled for Nov. 8 – 10 at both the CasaBlanca and Palms courses. Proceeds from the pro-am will benefit Mesquite Junior Golf. The pro-am will feature a special prize purse for professionals and amateur golfers. Professionals can bring their own amateur team or Nevada Open officials will pair interested professionals with a team of three amateurs. Registration for the pro-am is also now open on the website.
