Las Vegas, Nev. (Aug. 23, 2016)–It’s an easy question: How’s your golf game? We will help you answer that question once and for all as you tee it up at the stunning Wolf Creek Golf Club, a jaw-dropping golf experience located in Mesquite, Nevada, 77 miles north of Las Vegas. If you think you’ve got enough game to play on the Tour, this is the perfect course for you from the tips. If you think you’re a good player, but still want to be challenged, move up a couple sets of tees and this layout is still one that will challenge very aspect of your game. And if you’re just starting out, well, the forward tees still let everyone take their best shots at one of the most impressive courses you’ll play. –By Bill Bowman

From the tips, Wolf Creek is just 6,939 yards. But what it may lack in length, it more than makes up for in challenges. Don’t believe us? Grab your clubs and head to the first tee. But remember…we warned you.

The test starts from the very first tee on this course that features rolling fairways, dramatic elevation changes and hazards galore.

The opening hole, from the tips, measures a jaw-dropping 579 yards. Now the good news is the first 150 yards is straight downhill from an elevated tee. But from the middle of the fairway to the green, the elevation raises some 50 feet and ends with a green tucked near the base of a mountain.

But there’s more. Much more. How about a 248-yard, par- (the 8th) to test your accuracy and your nerve. Add in a green that is a water-laden dart board and you’ve got a target that is just plain tough to hit.

Darren Stanek, the general manager, offers a little advice: “Playing the right set of tees is vital,” he said. “The further back players go, the smaller the landing areas become and some of the carries get a little longer. If you don’t hit your drives a certain distance, the back tees will seem very extreme.”

Overall, the course winds seamlessly over, around and through cliffs and mesas with great views of the course along with enough demanding shots and carries to test even the best players.

But, now that we’ve got you a little wary, it’s time to point out that playing the proper set of tees will let everyone enjoy the course. That opening hole drops from 579 yards down to 467 yards from the white tees, giving players the chance to take a shot at getting home in two. From the forward tees, it’s just 396 yards. And the 248-yard par-3 now becomes a 152-yard hole from the white tees and 85 yards from the forward tees.

“The more forward tees players use the larger the landing areas are,” he said. “There’s more margin for error and it gives players the chance to hit greens in regulation from about 150 yards.”

It’s all in a players’ approach. Play the proper set of tees and you’ll have a great time on a stunning course with the chance to pick up a few birdies along the way. Play from the wrong set of tees and your attitude and score (along with your supply of golf balls) may suffer.
