Mesquite, Nev. (Nov. 28, 2016)–If you think you and your buddy have game, here’s the chance to prove it on a big-time stage–Wolf Creek Golf Club. On Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, Wolf Creek will hold its ‘Tame The Wolf’ tournament. The two-person scramble, which will see professional and amateurs tee it up from the tips on every hole, will give golfers a unique perspective of this daunting golf course. This day isn’t for the weak of heart but there is a cash purse on the line and major bragging rights as some of the top pros and amateurs in the area are scheduled to play. To sign up, visit the official Tame the Wolf section of the Wolf Creek website. –By Bill Bowman.

Wolf Creek is a top 100 golf courses that is located an hour north of Las Vegas in Mesquite, Nev.. It plays 6,939 yards from the tips but with a 154 slope rating, players will be hard pressed to find a more intimidating layout. With severe elevation changes, dramatic water features, perfect bunkering and rolling fairways, this one checks all the boxes when it comes to impressive courses.

Now, putting your game on display from the tips on a course like this is a whole other story–even with the event being a scramble. How challenging is this layout from the tips? Well, the 8th hole, a par-3, reaches a knee-knocking 248 yards and plays into a green with plenty of water coming into play. Or, there’s the 562-yard, par-5 17th. Now, that may not sound like a lot of length off the tee, but the approach shot, whether it’s the second shot (for those with John Daly-type ambitions) or the wedge shot in with a third shot, is into a green guarded in the front and on the right by a huge pond.

Add on 16 other holes that are both memorable and intimidating (especially from the tips) and you’ve got a round of golf that will test pros and amateurs alike.

There will be a 10 a.m. shotgun start and the cost is $150 per person or $300 per two-man team. Prizes will be awarded including $1,920 for first-place (based on the first 32 teams entering) down to $340 for 8th place.

In addition to the golf, there are also special room rates available from the Eureka Hotel & Casino.
