LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Aug. 28, 2017)–It’s that time of year again: over seeding. It’s the time when golfers have to scramble and look around to see which week (or weeks) their favorite course is closed and then check around to see which other courses may be open. Well, at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort players won’t have that problem. Yes, the resort will close down each of the three courses for a few days, but it’s simply to aerify greens. And while one of them is closed down, the other two remain open. –By Bill Bowman.
The Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, with its three Pete Dye classic designed courses, will take care of its aerifying of the greens process (there is no over seeding) from the end of August into September. Sun Mountain will be closed first followed by The Wolf and then Snow Mountain. Click here to get exact aerification dates.
“While a majority of the courses in Las Vegas are closed for multiple weeks for over seeding and have cart path restrictions, we have the luxury of not having to over seed and will have two courses available at all times–except during buyouts or blackout dates,” said Jeff Reid, general manager. “Due to the type of grass we have, our elevation and our water well rights, we are able to provide our customers with an amazing product year round.”
The Snow, Sun and Wolf courses will challenge players and also offer outstanding views and serenity. Located in northwest Las Vegas, it’s a short drive to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The Wolf is the centerpiece. It’s 7,604 from the tips but a variety of tees will make it playable by everyone. And the 15th hole, an island green par-3, is one of the most dramatic holes around.
The Snow Mountain and Sun Mountain courses both tip out at around 7,100 yards in length. With par 5s offering risk/reward options and scenic and challenging par 3s, these two are tough enough for the championship player but still playable for the beginner.
All three have impressive water features and Dye’s trademark railroad ties bordering the bunkers.
